time for pause

My apologies for neglecting my blog this month. There has been lots going on In my 'real world' and unfortunately blogging hasn't been on my priority list. I still have lots to share with you all and I hope to be back blogging again soon. But right now I need some time for pause and reflection. Some time to take care of my mental health. Some time to connect with my family on a deeper level. Thank you for understanding. xo

Slow Living Diary (April2012)

This is the forth installment of my Slow Living Diary for 2012. The original concept came from Christine at Slow Living Essentials and she has invited everyone to join in!

NOURISH:  As the weather turns cold, we have been nourishing our selves with some wonderfully warm stews. My favourite new addition has been a chicken/veggie/lentil soup with homemade bread rolls! (if only I could convince Boo to try some!). The Manuka Honey and Lemon tea has also made an appearance as the winter colds and flu's decided to make an early comeback!

PREPARE: A new orange muffin recipe was trialed, declared a success and extras frozen for later! I also pre-made some Osso Buco Pasta Sauce for the days I just couldn't be bothered cooking while hubby was away.

REDUCE: Reusing old seedling pots and toilet paper rolls for our new winter seeds. Old yoghurt pots became paint pots for the kids. And hubby fixed a couple of our portable fans instead of throwing them out. (on a side note: what the heck is with everywhere south of Brisbane not having ceiling fans?!?)

GREEN: Air drying clothes and nappies. Researching natural herbal remedies! (to hopefully be used in the coming month!)

GROW: Seeds were planted into punnets, then destroyed by the puppy, then re-planted! The sneaky garlic chives hiding in the fairy garden are growing well. The mint however, was dug up by said puppy!

CREATE: Lots of sewing as usual. As well as trying my hand at felt, patchwork, embroidery and crochet. Lots of creativity flowing, just lacking the time to get it all done! (isn't that always the case).

DISCOVER: I signed up for The Organic Sister's e-course, and have found it powerful and inspiring (just like everything Tara writes about!).

ENHANCE: A combination of illness and crappy weather has meant less community connections going on here then usual. We did meet some new families at a play group at a local hobby farm which the kids loved.

ENJOY: We attended a lovely birthday party for a wonderful little 3 yr old boy. We caught up with a good friend that I haven't seen in person for almost 3 yrs! (Isn't it wonderful when you can just pick up where you left off, as if nothing has changed?)

A day for sunggling...

It's cold, wet and windy here today. One of those days that is perfect for snuggling up under a blanket with a cup of tea and a good book. But with two kids and a hubby who is working away, spending a day like that will have to stay in my daydreams. So instead we dance, we grocery shop, we wear our gumboots out, and we watch a little Dirtgirl World

Did I mention I've joined the gumboot club? Well I have. Unfortunately I couldn't find any from our local op-shops, so I ended up buying them new. I really like them. Actually, I kinda love them! They are just what I wanted. Boo is rather impressed. He has informed me that now I can jump in "Puddy Muddles" with him! Very exciting stuff.

Life is good right now.

Tea and cookies anyone?

Oh my! I have found a new love!

I've been meaning to play around with making some felt food for a while now. I've finally given it a go, and I love love love it! So easy to work with, so many beautiful colours, and the endless list of things you can do with it!

This little tea and cookies set is off to a friends little boy. Boo has already requested a set for himself of course! I think I will be adding this to my products on PattiCake Lane.

Does anyone else love working with felt?

Slow Living Diary (Mar 2012)

This is the third installment of my Slow Living Diary for 2012. I'm a little late with this one, but we got there in the end! The original concept came from Christine at Slow Living Essentials and she has invited everyone to join in!

NOURISH: Pizza Bases, mini apple pies, mountains of banana muffins (in every variation possible), and omelet experiments have been on the menu this month.

PREPARE:Lots of healthy snack foods for the kids went into the freezer this month. We also made a batch of apple sauce as a sugar replacer in our baked goods.

REDUCE: The kids reused all our cardboard packets for craft, as well as milk and juice bottle lids.

GREEN: Resisting the urge to put the clothes in the dryer on rainy days!

GROW: Still being rewarded with beautiful basil, parsley, rosemary and spinach. We would have been enjoying some lovely mini capsicums, but the smallest child can't help but pick them and runaway with them before they are ripe! We have also expanded our flower gardens! It's looking lovely and colourful in the yard!

CREATE: New range for PattiCake Lane is being designed and prototypes are being sewn up!

DISCOVER: I've been reading lots on Minimalism lately. This blog in particular has been quite interesting. I was also lucky enough to stumble upon a copy of "How to talk so kids will listen, and listen so kids will talk" by Adele Faber in our local second hand book store.

ENHANCE: Craft dates with Boo's little friend and a lovely Homebirth park meet. We also had a visit for one of my best childhood friends, which was of course absolutely wonderful and just the kind of connection I needed!

ENJOY: Visits to the park, new words from the little miss, family picnic's and support from friends xo

Short and sweet this month ;)
